Welcome to Hotel Fen!
All guests are given the current week’s list of special activities by the cheerful blonde receptionist upon check in. There’s also a small stack of them on the reception desk should you lose yours, or if you would like a second copy.
Your itinerary reads:
MONDAY — TOO ZEN TO GIVE A DAMN
The two conference rooms in the third floor have been transformed to accommodate several massage chairs with masseuses. The two seminar rooms have also been cleaned up, and all the chairs have been settled on one side to make room for several yoga mats, spread out and waiting for people to use them. The instructors are two pretty blondes, tall and lithe like supermodels, and they're in one of those impressive acrobatic poses when you enter.
TUESDAY — HIKE MORE, WORRY LESS
There are several beautiful trails around the hotel for people to hike and explore. Some are marked as longer than others, but there are plenty of guides around with maps to hand you or actually accompany you on the hikes. They’re also happy to suggest which trail is best for you based on your level of experience.
WEDNESDAY — I WAS MERMAID FOR THIS
The pool area on the first floor is bustling with activity today. There are extra towels for everyone, there’s music pumping through the speakers, and there are a few tables set up with snacks. And while pools aren’t just for kids, there are some juice boxes and animal crackers for those who are so inclined.
THURSDAY — INTO THE UNKNOWN (BUT SAFELY)
Nestled in the small hill behind the hotel is a cave that you can rent equipment to explore. The tour guides will assure you that there’s no real way to get lost in the caves; all the paths are marked and will lead you toward the exit. So why not explore? You never know how deep they go or what you’ll find in them.
FRIDAY — A BALANCED DIET IS CHOCOLATE IN BOTH HANDS
The restaurant is holding special demonstrations throughout the day, and after the demonstration there are free samples to help yourselves to. Ever wondered how to make truffles? The dessert chef will be more than happy to take you through the experience.
II. I CAN TOUCH THE COLORS AROUND ME
this beautiful life, i think it'd be nice with you ♫♪
Noticed the hotel's theme yet? One Saturday night it's going to be shoved into your face in full force, because it's time for the summer blót, a feast for the Norse god of war, Odin. There's going to a bonfire and face paint and singing and dancing, and of course, free-flowing booze and lots of good food. You can come in costume too, if you want to bring out the Viking in you!
III. ARE YOU, ARE YOU, COMING TO THE TREE?
stranger things have happened here ♫♪
It's a great morning to go hiking! Or night, if that's your thing. And everything's just peachy... until you try to leave the perimeter of the hotel compound, because then you'll inexplicably find yourself on the trail leading right back to the entrance.
The phenomenon is usually accompanied by the sighting of an old, blackened tree — but once you turn and walk away from it, it disappears. The tree also never seems to be quite in the same place. What gives?
IV. THE HAPPIEST SOUND OF THEM ALL (NETWORK)
ring ring, why don't you give me a call? ♫♪
There is no cell reception in the vicinity of the hotel. At all. No matter what you do or try, nada. And while each of the rooms have vintage telephones, they can only call other rooms, the front desk and the restaurant.
The business center next to the gym on the first floor has several computers for guests to use. They seem like they're connecting to the internet well enough, if not just a little slow, but you will never actually receive emails from anyone from the outside world other than emails designed to look like spam. Hmm, did your emails out actually reach their destination?
Don't worry, though, you're supposed to be on vacation! So why not chat up your new friends instead, or leave them messages at the front desk?
V. I'M COUNTIN' ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR... (BONUS)
this is my longest elevator ride ♫♪
Okay, we're just really here to plug the song, which was composed for our book's soundtrack. ☝️
But yes, you're stuck in the hotel's vintage elevator. Good luck!

he holds a beer bottle and waves through the nighttime activities until he finds himself drawn to the fire. a girl stands beside him, no older than thirty, he thinks, but it's hard to tell in the orange glow. ]
I heard that every fire tells a story. Is that why you're watching?

[ That definitely earns Dick a look of interest, and for a moment Jane is reminded of her younger days. Of lighter days, brighter days. The Jedi academy had been in the middle of the jungles of Yavin, after all, and they'd had bonfires and things on plenty occasions. ]
I mean, there could be a story. But it's oftentimes just a matter of perspective. [ Kriff, she's starting to get philosophical again. ]

still, she can't help but occasionally look up from her book with a smile. the kids are having fun. it's kind of cute. ]
He's about ready to run this place. [ so much for keeping quiet. there's something strangely familiar about the other woman, and it's hard to miss the way the kid has taken to leading the group. she can't help herself. Hannah's never been great at shutting up. ]
yesssss haha also just the force or the hotel not wanting them to recognize each other so lmao
He's a little prince, this one. [ Not actually a lie. ] You have kids?

Jon Snow | Game of Thrones
[ A lot had been hard to accommodate to. He's taking the stairs, not the elevator because he doesn't trust it. The phone in his room has rung occasionally and it's startled him enough that he's quickly picked it up and dropped it back down, not entirely knowing what was going on with it. Even the running water and toilet had been odd, though those he'd taken to well. Especially the warm showers.
But today is another something new. One of the hotel staff is encouraging him over to the restaurant were a few of the other guests have gathered in order to watch the truffle demonstration. He knows how to cook meat at a campfire, but this chocolate is not something he has experience with and he's curious about it. Which may be why he tilts his head to the person next to him, you, and offers a gentle. ] That looks delicious.
02. Party it up
[ He'd found a couple pairs of clothing in his room since arriving. Some black jeans and a gray knit sweater mostly, which he had chosen to wear tonight. Though he can't stop himself from keeping the cloak he arrived with around his shoulders to keep the chill of the night out.
Sure there's a bonfire going that will keep plenty of the people warm, but he's never really been a party person. Which is why he's found an ale from the bar and settled to watch the party goers a little. He's here at least, which is saying a lot for him, though his comfort level doesn't exactly let him slip into the rukus and noise closer to the fire. ]
03. If you go out in the woods today
[ This place with the chill and the snow are very much like home in some ways. Remote and quiet if you disappear into the trees, which is exactly why Jon walks into them with Ghost at his side. He's happy to just lose himself in the trees, not even trying to follow the paths. But then the he's a decent tracker so he doesn't expect to lose himself at all, even if he's off the path.
What he finds odd though, is that he notices after seeing a dark tree and shifting his path some, that he's heading back toward the hotel instead of further out. It doesn't make sense to him because he hadn't been headed back the way he came when he'd turned from the tree. Turning a little, he calls to Ghost and starts to head what he thinks is further away again to leave the hotel at his back. When he finds himself some how turned back to the hotel again, even Ghost gives an annoyed huff.
Though, if you're a little turned around in the woods, call out. He'll help you find your way back. ]

[ that small fact about herself just sort of comes out but Cashmere can't really place any particular memories about not liking sweets. anything before being at the hotel is fuzzy at best. for the most part that's just fine. the hotel is nice, every she wants is provided for her. there's no reason to want to leave because she doesn't know where she belongs anyway. ]
And if you love chocolate I'm sure it'll be the best you've ever had.
no subject
[ It's telling, that she doesn't like sweets and yet she always makes sure to get one from the samples when she stops in at this demonstration. That alone is enough to sell him on trying them. Though they do look really good too. The hotel has been a little strange to him as a whole, but a good kind of strange. A weirdly relaxing kind of strange.
He's still a little wary of it, but he wants to try and embrace it at the same time. Like coming to this. ]
I didn't have a lot of it where I was from. Mostly lemon cakes.

middleelevator with you[ the elevator is moving along smoothly (though not swiftly) when it suddenly lurches to a halt. Cashmere instinctively reaches out to steady herself against wall. she waits for it to restart - and waits. and waits. ]
Well? Try the buttons. [ she suggests her companion try - Cashmere doesn't want to be responsible if pushing buttons makes it worse, of course. ] Aren't they supposed to have emergency help buttons?
2. exploring the caves
[ Cashmere had set out to explore the cave all by herself, but now that she's at the entrance with equipment in hand... she's not so sure she wants to go alone. even though she's been promised that it's safe, something feels general unwise to disappear into a cave alone.
while she's debating between cancelling the whole thing all together and going forward with what might be a dumb idea, another one of the hotel guests approaches with gear in hand. ]
Are you waiting for someone? [ no reason. just asking. it's not like she's here all alone. ]

I... what good would touching the buttons...? [ The magic's gone from this thing, how is it supposed to work? Unless... ah, emergency help buttons? But which one? The writing is in Old Norse. ] There's this one with a red—

Why anyone spelunking would carry a book around is anyone's guess... but such is the way of Selene's world, where these sort of books, called Codexes, function in nearly the same manner as smartphones. Texting device, ebook reader and personal journal all in one. ]
Láthos mou. My fault. [ The English translation is quickly appended; Selene's most fluent in Greek, but she speaks Italian and English as well. She picks the book up from the stone floor, makes a vain attempt at wiping it dry, then tucks it back into inside pocket of her jacket. ] Sorry. You okay?
[ She's a wisp of a girl, with dark hair and dark eyes and tanned skin. Egyptian descent — which is probably why she'd stopped to look at the hieroglyphic-like carvings on the wall behind her.

The closet had oddly had a thick coat hanging next to his cloak in the closet and as much as he'd wanted to choose the cloak, Jon had decided on the more modern coat so he'd blend in with everyone here a little better. He'd seen a few of the guests eye him in his cloak when he'd arrived, after all, and he hadn't wanted to deal with those again. Not so early in the morning when all he wanted was a quiet walk.
He wanders through the trees easily, and for a while he stops paying attention to where he's completely going. Which may be why he ends up walking directly into Margaery's path on accident and realizing it far too late for him to get out of her way. ]

's okay. My bad--I snuck up on you. [ there's a questioning tilt to his head as he looks back up at the stranger's face, illuminated by the headlamp strapped to his helmet. there's the wide-eyed startle there, though it seems she's recovered. perhaps he'd gotten too good at being quiet, too comfortable in caves, or hadn't been careful enough when a rock loosened and skidded along the cave walls. ]
You alright? [ he nods towards her hip. ] Lose some equipment?

Dick Grayson | Titans
[ It’s taken him a few hours to figure out that things aren’t what he’s used to here. The stack of papers sitting in the lobby drafting out the itinerary for the week seems standard enough—written in upbeat, resort language, except he doesn’t remember how he got here or really—where this is at all.
His mind is a wide open expanse of possibilities and puzzles. Faint questions surface: Was he working a case? Did he follow a lead here? Where’s the suit and the team? Then possible conclusions: he must have traversed the walls between the multiverses. Perhaps this is a sick joke after he was kidnapped.
Dick picks up the sheet of paper and reads it again. It’s the same one as the sheet he’d received in his room. He lifts a brow in intrigue as someone steps up next to him. ]
You get one of these too?
02// A hike.
[ he tugs the jacket a little tighter around himself. there’s a chill in the shadows of the trees as he weaves his way around the forest forest floor, meandering around rocks on the narrow trail. it’s one of his most base instincts: to gain an understanding of any new surroundings. besides, it was nice to get out of the hotel for some fresh air.
there’s that black tree again, looking slightly out of place. his brows knit together as he turns to look behind him. the hotel peeks from between the thickened bush and he swears that he’s gone farther than that.
a silhouette seems to be approaching him. ]
Hey—! [ he calls, sticking a hand up to wave. maybe it’s a local? most likely another guest at the hotel. he starts to walk towards them. ] Hey—you from that hotel too? There’s something weird going on.
03// A Note.
[ a message left at the message board by the front desk: ]
Need a hand or got one to give? Call 305.
- G

Ghost however is more than happy to bound around the forest floor on the trail as he moves with Jon through the trees. The direwolf doesn't care that they keep getting turned around and pointed back toward the hotel instead of finding a way out or home. Though at the yell, Ghost stills and looks over at the new arrival, and Jon can't help but wave back to acknowledge that he's heard the man.
Jon's at least dressed a little more modern, his cloak and furs in the closet at the hotel and a winter coat keeping him warm. Not that he seems bothered by the cold. It's been his life for all his years, this cold. ] You keep finding yourself close to the hotel?
[ His tone is a little furstrated as he glances between the black tree and the hotel as the large white wolf comes to rest at Jon's side. ] We haven't been able to get very far before we seem to be pointed back here.

He doesn't remember if this was a case. If this was a forced vacation by Alfred.
So, being the detective he is, he stays calm and makes his way downstairs, keeping an eye out for anyone else. The young man he finds at the front desk already piques his interest with that line of questioning.

it would be hard to miss the amount of time Luke spends doing whatever it is he thinks he's doing in the business center. he's up to something and almost impressively undeterred by the complete and total lack of progress. ]
