𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐈𝐈𝐈: π“π‡πŽπ‘, 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐈

Welcome to Hotel Fen! It's December 2016.
This month's patron is Thor the Thunderer.

Outside the back entrance of the hotel, down a little path to the side, you'll find a narrow, hedge-lined path that leads to a small clearing among some of the forest trees. There are a few benches on either side, an invitation to sit and think, or even to sit and talk, because while you're here, it feels as if you're not alone — though there isn't anyone to see past the other hotel guests who might be wandering about.

At the center of the clearing is a moderately sized altar carved out of stone. The table of the altar stands about waist high and is large enough to place a downed deer... or lay a person on. The stone itself looks old, the edges worn smooth and that light gray now darker from being exposed to the elements over the years. The spots on top of the table, well, it wasn't uncommon to leave sacrificial offerings to the gods in the past, but it's probably best not to ask what the darker stains are if you don't want to know.

There's a large slab rising up from the back of the table to stand over it, which comes to a point at the top. On the slab are carvings of thunderbolts, wicked-looking goats, and a face that looks like someone who'd been in the hotel previously. There's also a large ᚦ in the center of the slab and even if you don't know Norse mythology and any of its gods, you get the impression that it represents Thor.

On the table are three items that used to be available in the gift shop: a 4XL
Viking drinking horn, a small Yule goat, and Mjolnir. The horn will always be full of mead (yes, it refills itself) and anyone who drinks from it, depending on the quantity, will either develop a loud, bellowing voice (say you took a sip) or actually fly into a berkserker rage (if you drink yourself blind). The Yule goat, on the other hand, is harmless... for the time being.

And Mjolnir? Good luck lifting it.

wild was Vingthor when he awoke, and when his mighty hammer he missed; he shook his beard, his hair was bristling.

I. WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS
summer has come and passed β™«β™ͺ
The guests wake up to discover two things: the date is now November 13, 2016, and they are not in their original rooms. The front desk lady will be, as always, oblivious to this strange occurrence, but will easily and eagerly provide replacement key cards, at no extra cost, if requested.

There are no signs of the missing posters or the ghost students or the black tree. In fact, it's like the last couple of weeks never happened at all... probably because it's now 2016 instead of 2021?

Christmas is also in full swing in the hotel, with decors and lights and carols all around. It's also perpetually snowing outside — nothing heavy, always at an even pace, but somehow still enough to freeze the lake for ice skating, allow skiing, and for snow to gather and make the hotel look picturesque. Kind of like what one would see in a postcard. Or a snow globe.

New arrivals will also start on this date and scenario, regardless of when in the month they actually came in OOCly.

Please refer to the calendar for the list of activities, as well as the new room assignments.

II. HIGH ON A HILL WAS A LONELY GOATHERD
lay ee odl lay ee old-oo β™«β™ͺ
Out on the courtyard is the hotel's newest attraction: a large goat inspired by Sweden's Gävle goat, though erected so much earlier than the original version. But like the Gävle goat, it will quickly become the subject of repeated arson attacks, and guests will soon start to notice that when the goat is burned, bad things happen.

Hmmm. Maybe it's because goats are Thor's sacred animals...?

The first burning will be on November 27th, coinciding with the burning of the Gävle goat in Sweden. The incident will result to a freak thunderstorm the next day and the following guests will be struck by lightning or electrocuted (if they're inside the hotel while it's storming) — not fatal, but enough to hurt and lead to injury and panic.
  • Alexandra Trese
  • Poe Dameron
  • Bucky Barnes
  • Aleksander Kirigan
  • Anna Morasca
  • Beverly Marsh
  • Jon Snow
The goat will also be hit by a car on December 5th, on the same day it happens to the Gävle goat. In the following week these guests will experience enhanced "clumsiness", such as falling off their beds for no reason, falling down the stairs, tripping on nothing, running smack into glass walls, getting a door closed on their faces, spilling drinks or food on themselves...
  • Ben Hanscom
  • Lyanna Stark
  • Julia
  • Gloria
  • Wes Wrench
  • Alec Lightwood
  • Pietro Maximoff
  • Alessandra DiStefano
  • Steve Rogers
  • Hannah Solo
  • John Marston
  • Kofun
  • Zed Martin
Troublemaking and curious guests can also, of course, attempt to burn the goat. FOR SCIENCE. Please comment here with the date and circumstances of the goat burning, and find out the consequences!

Lastly, these guests will be immune to any bad luck brought about by burned goats, even if they are part of the lists above:
  • those whose patron is Thor: Wes Wrench, Jouya Hoshino, John Cthulhutine
  • those who bought Yule goats from the gift shop: Rey, Poe Dameron, Alina Starkov, Cashmere Ritchson, Alexandra Trese

OOC NOTES AND UPDATES
  • The character masterlist has been updated! There's been some swings to the HV rankings, so please do check them out. 😎
    • We're still working on updating the taken list, so please refer to the spreadsheet in the meantime!
  • Sign ups are once again open! We currently have 12 slots. This month all new arrivals will wake up in the hotel, however, they will remember having arrived previously according to the arrival option selected. Who's going to believe them though, when they were in their rooms that morning of November 13, 2016? HMMM.
  • The gift shop will no longer sell the Viking-themed items that were up for grabs for those who participated in the TDM. Those who still haven't used their vouchers, however, can still use those at the gift shop, and we'll leave it up to you to decide which items are now available (it's Christmastime!) and how much they're priced.
  • Kazie will now resume responding to the Hoarr threads, as the information gleaned might be useful to the characters in the coming months. So feel free to go back to the previous log and tag that. With this month's log taking place in an entirely different time, who really knows if that conversation happened... 😏
  • We sincerely apologize for the laser tag event falling through and for the inconvenience and confusion it has caused everyone. We thought that it would be something new and fun to try, but then life happened and we were not there to facilitate and get it moving. Again, we're really sorry.
    • Speaking of laser tag, we've decided to use the OOC plotting posts to determine the winners, factoring in the injuries and the "participation." So the winner is Team Vidar, followed by Team Tyr, Team Hodr, Team Thor, and, very far behind in terms of points, Team Baldr. (No, this is not foreboding at all.)
  • For questions, please ask them here! We can still be reached via Plurk and Discord, though mostly just Lizzy, so we'd prefer having the questions on this post for everyone's visibility. Also, for that same reason, we're not putting up an OOC post this round, but please feel free to post plotting comments under this toplevel.
  • Lastly, we just want to say THANK YOU to everyone for staying with us despite how horrible we've been in the past weeks. We'll make it up to you and do our best to still give you a fun RP experience. πŸ’–

1. November 13th - lobby drinking

[ how many times has Hannah argued with the front desk now? first over the disappearance of Chewie, the poster calling her a criminal (even if it's true!), getting injured playing their supposedly safe game of laser tag... and now all of this? all of her things were there when she woke up but the room somehow felt wrong - and that was confirmed when she realized she was, in fact, in a different room than she'd been in before.

arguing with the front desk staff is useless, and Hannah takes a seat in the lobby, sinking into a big armchair in front of a Christmas tree. it's a perfect spot to watch other people come up to argue with the front desk while she drinks hot chocolate (with some whiskey added). ]

I give you five points for not completely losing your cool on them - [ Hannah laughs at her own joke as one of the guests passes her. ] I'd have given you 10 if you'd yelled.

[ she holds out the bottle of whiskey. ] Want some?

December 10th - wine tasting

[ Hannah's presence is heard before it's seen, the distinct sounds of someone slipping on the stairs and falling the last several steps to land awkwardly on her back and narrowly missing slamming her head on the staircase. she scrambles to her feet and hurries for the front door to recover her dignity outside - instead walking straight into the glass. so much for her dignity.

she turns around sharply and tries her best to look casual as she abandons her plan of going outside and heads for the wine tasting. the only way to solve this problem is more alcohol.

glass in hand, she shuffles closer to the nearest hotel guest and murmurs around her drink: ]
I think this place is trying to kill us.

November 13th??

Not that he noticed right away, but John had a feeling something was more off than the usual off this place was. No, at first he was preoccupied with getting ready for the day, then he was busy griping about snow as he pulled on a coat. Sure, he couldn't get overcold or overwarm, but the fact that he hated snow from the time he was young - compounded with memories of shitty freak snowstorms and things that happened in one - he was in no sort of happy mood. Also, he woke up on the seventh floor when he was absolutely certain he fell asleep on the fifth.

John was not so deep into his thoughts as to be completely blindsided by the sheer Christmas of it all... Wait. Wasn't it? May? May or June. He couldn't be sure, he had decided that time was nebulous in the hotel, but not this out of whack. Hell, it wasn't 2016, last he checked, either. Everything felt off kilter. The tree was nice, the decorations were festive. John wasn't one to celebrate Christmas - hadn't been in nearly oh, hell, a little over ten years by his estimation. Christmas was a family holiday, and the only family he had was Sadie. He still tinkered with the idea of buying her something at the gift shop.

But it's the thirteenth. He's going through his usual routine. Pinning up new photos -- this time of the cave mouth, and one within the cave itself, the bus that had arrived, and of the elevator. He ruled out lines on a sticky note, and then wrote on it, Have any experiences with these? Reach JM.

Every week, the altar will have a freshly killed deer set on it. It's drained of blood, but otherwise intact. He figures whatever gods are around will appreciate sharing the prize of the hunt. He loves sharing, after all.

Throughout the week, John will be able to be found (with camera, sometimes even with his pups!) looking at the Northern Lights, trudging around the woods in the snow (with a rifle,) riding the fluffy horses, or just lounging around the bar, taking it very carefully with the alcohol, now that he knows it can affect him.

Apparently it's December now.

So here's the thing. John wasn't the most graceful man to begin with. He had his share of pratfalls and plain shit luck, but all those excuses aside, John was having terrible luck when it came to keeping himself from being clumsy.

First, it was skidding on a puddle left by snow on the foyer's floor. He didn't fall on his ass, but with his windmilling arms, and surprised expression, what the man kept in equilibrium, he lost in pride.

Then it was while he was trying to mount a horse in the stables to go for a ride. This man, whose entire life revolved around horses, toppled over while trying to get into the saddle, and was literally floored. If he had any wind in him, it would have been knocked out.

The most annoying one, though, was when he was trying to climb the stairs up to the seventh floor. He'd had a fair amount better luck with the stairs - that when sober, he could just speed up with no issue - than with the elevator, which after three times, he refused to use again. But this time, around floor four, he miscalculated a step, fell, and then skidded down to the landing between the third and fourth floor. It hurt. He wasn't suffering any long term wounds, but he knew if it weren't for his resilience, he would've come out of it with some pretty nasty bruises.

However, he noticed that he was far from the only one who had come down with a wild case of the Stooges. That was what clued him in that it wasn't his own shit luck. He was, of course, quick to help others to their feet when they tripped (sometimes only barely keeping himself up in the process,) and ask if folks were okay if they ran into things. Maybe you were one?

All things told and totaled, John was starting to feel that things needed to be figured out, and figured out fast. It felt like the proverbial bear trap was straining under the weight of something, and soon it'd snap closed.

This time, you can find him doing the usual, but he's also keeping company with a pair of rogue exorcists in addition to his partner. He can be yanked away at any time to be talked to about the wild shit happening around them.
